The Museum is proposed as a three story building of an irregular shape placed on pile foundation system on the edge of a shore in Newhaven in Edinburgh. A whole structure is gradually cantilevered above a steped surface of a stone sea bank. A load bearing system of the building is created of reinforced concrete monolithic skeleton. This skeleton is constructed of cast in situ concrete slabs supported by circular columns. An irregular shape of the layouts along with a number of cantilevered areas and open atriums was a leading factor when choosing the in-situ concrete structure oppose to pre-cast slab system, whitch would be more suitable for regular and repetitive design. Employing post-tensioned concrete system allowed to create spacious unobstructed areas suitable for exhibition spaces dominating the museum proposals.
